I use the one that started the mineral makeup and love it. I have been using it for about 4 years now. I use a big fluffy brush to buff it on and it covers so nice. You have to get used to using it as it is not like liquid where it is a thick coverage.
The key to good mineral foundation coverage is the flat brush. The brush is specially designed to help the makeup cling to the face and create a flawless finish. Mary Kay makes a great mineral powder, and it is very inexpensive!

What is the difference between mineral foundation and regular?
Mineral foundations are always a powder, versus regular foundation that is usually a liquid. Another big difference is that the mineral make up is more 'natural' than other make up in that it has far less of the chemicals typically found in mainstream cosmetics, so it's considered better for your skin.
Brands I like: I tried Bare Minerals; too expensive for me. Raw Minerals is a little better. I'm looking into the Aromasense brand that one of the Hosties recommended, and I really like the Bare Essentials line.
I would like to know which brands everyone has had luck with on these since I seem to be having issues with the ones I have tried. If you don't feel comfortable posting it then message me.
I've had breakout problems with liquid foundation for years (and I'm past 50). I finally tried mineral makeup from everydayminerals.com, and my skin has not looked this good since I was 9. This makeup has few ingredients and is very reasonably priced. From the same company, I bought a flat-top brush to apply the foundation. It is amazingly soft and non-scratchy. They also have a very soft kabuki brush. If you buy a kit (you choose the products), you can get six full-sized products, including brushes, for about $6 each. I'm thrilled with these products and highly recommend them.
What is the difference between mineral foundation and regular? I have seen the ads on TV for the mineral makeup but I didn't stop to really investigate it.
I have tried 2 samples of different brands of mineral foundation.
The very expensive brand accentuated any flaws and lines on my face.
The cheaper brand ended up looking spotty. It makes me look like a teenager learning to put on make-up.
I just plan on using my own tried and true brand.
I buy my own brushes to put make-up on instead of using what comes with makeup with the exception of the neutrogena mineral sheers blush that has it's own brush built in.
The mineral blush seems to be ok and I would like to try the eyeshadows.
I finally had a chance to try a mineral powder foundation, I do like the way it makes my skin feel. My face feels silky, and it did manage to penetrate the fine downy hair that covers my face these days, I didn’t think that was possible. The only thing I am not real thrilled with it the brush, I have sensitive skin and the brush feels a bit like sand paper to me. I would love it if anyone can give me suggestions on the brush situation, who knows maybe I will get used to or even learn to suffer through it.
The mineral make up companies, in response to customer requests, are starting to put out more liquid-based foundations and for some, they're even trying for lip color that's mineral based.
Look for it and try it - the results are usually nothing short of amazing!

Olivia, yes, you can. First moisturize, using a light moisturizer. Then tap a little of the powder into your hand and add a few drops of the moisturizer or an aloe vera gel to make a cream foundation. then apply with a sponge. Also, once you run out, you may want to scout for a liquid mineral makeup, there are a few available.
Megalina, thanks for the tips! I played with the makeup again and you're right, pressing your hands to your face does seem to set the makeup.
I've got very dry skin, I wonder if the makeup can be mixed with a moisturizer to make it feel a little more creamy on the skin? Possibly not, that would seem to defeat the point of it being mineral makeup. I do wish I'd been blessed with perfect skin!

I've always wanted to try mineral makeup. With your tips, you've sold me. Thanks.

One tip I have picked up along the way is after you have brushed on the mineral makeup, take your hands and press them on each side of your face for a few minutes.
The heat from your hands helps to blend the nutrients into your skin, making the makeup blend more naturally into the skin
I've also been told that after applying any facial makeup to take a tissue and lightly dab your face to remove any excess.
