I have dark hair but I highlight to blonde. I have those stubborn gray hairs and not too happy with them. I have more of them around my face than any other part of my head. I am going to have to start doing around my face more because it seems like more and more are turning gray. I guess I could go to an all over blonde but I just did not want to get the dark roots showing up so quick.

Oh my God! Don;t you hate that? I looked in the mirror yesterday and there was one next to my ear that was sticking straight out and all wavy like I had stuck my finger in the socket! Kind of like Katherine O'Hara's sideburns at the dinner party in Beetlejuice, only straight out from my head, instead of pasted flat to my head. And of course because it's "Such a pretty gray" all bright and sparkly, it was like a beacon, lol.

Great article, EmilyGrace! I love the information!
My white hairs are having babies! I'll check out that article posted on resistant gray. It does seem they tend to be more wiry and stick out all over. I have a few just at my hairline in the front which tend to stick straight up. It's pretty funny but I think I'd like to just dye them now. The amusement has worn off!
I have medium-dark brown hair with some auburn highlights but the gray is just taking over! I think I will try the products specifically targeting gray hairs to start, and see if that works. Thanks for the tips, all! I think you answered alot of questions for alot of others today too!
I am not sure of the brand name but they now have hair color on the market that also gives you highlights for a more natural look. I would think that this would also help to blend the grays in. I found my first gray when I was pregnant for my first daughter, I tell everyone that should have told me everything.

It's by a master colorist and he says gray hair because it lacks pigment is courser, therefore more resistant and needs to be softened before color application. He also says that while the texture of everyone's hair differs, anyone with over 50% gray will most likely need to soften before coloring.

I don't bleach, but I use a high lift, now I am thinking that I would like to do highlights to take care of it. Talk to your stylist about what they use to call a reverse frost, instead of bleaching out the hair they will use a darker tint on what is pulled through.
I have had the same problem as well, I have dark brown hair and my grays are coming in more and more. I finally gave up trying to color it myself so I went to a beauty salon and got myself some highlights. The highlights make my grays blend in so they are not noticeable at all.
I also started going gray early. To this day I have more gray hairs compared to my mom lol. She looks so young they never think we are mother and daughter.
I bleach my hair to get rid of the gray. I would love to find something in between that would only cover the gray hair and leave the rest blonde.
I come by early graying hair naturally because both my parents turned gray early - or maybe it was because they had me as a daughter.
Anyway, I've always told myself there is nothing wrong with gray hair and just let it be, but as more and more shows up, I'm starting to reconsider. Since nothing else about my hair is easy or manageable, I'm sure coloring will be an issue, too.
I started turning gray (actually white and silver) in my 20s. They say to leave the color on longer for resistant gray. Another thing you can do is a light frost to disguise the gray that don't like color. Don't know what color your hair is or what color you are trying to achieve. If you are lifting color like going blonder or something use a high lift peroxide in 30v or 40v, just be careful because they are a whole lot stronger than you would think they would be.
Anyone have gray hair that is resistant to being color treated? I have always colored my hair with no trouble, but now the grays are upon me and are proving to be stubborn to change!
