My son uses the flat iron but he puts it on so darn hot that he now has split ends. I told him he is going to have to get it cut if he burns it up more. I really love his hair when he just washes it and lets it go but he has this thing about having it all mashed down lol. Boys what are ya gonna do??? One day he will look back and go oh no how did you let me out of the house like that LOL.

Lori makes a good point.  Even with super straight hair, a good flat iron can do wonders.  An iron adds a sleekness and shine that you can't really achieve any other way.  So they really are for just about anyone!  :)

I too have very straight hair, but still flat iron mine daily. Other wise, it's straight, but has a "fuzzy" look. Flat ironing mine gives it a sleek look I like! :) Do you have a particular style of flat iron in mind for "Santa" to bring you?

My hairdresser recently suggested I start flatironing my hair-- I thought she was kidding, because my hair is super-straight!  She was serious, though-- she did it for me, and now I totally want to buy one!

I have tried the wide-barrel curling iron a few times, just to finish the ends, but I think I'm going to ask for a little flatiron for Christmas!  :-)

I need to try some type of smoothing milk! I flat iron my hair each day because it's "fuzzy" or frizzy if I don't.

I also like the idea of using a curling iron to flatten the hair but curling the ends! I'll have to try that soon!

I am a curling iron addict all the way. Even if I want to straighten it I'll grab my curling iron! Sounds weird but if I run it across and linger on the ends I get a straight but soft look since it curls slightly at the ends that way. ;-)

My daughter also uses the Fructis smoothing milk and a flat iron. She loves the smoother because it tames her hair without making it feel sticky or crunchy. She also uses a leave-in conditioner everyday.

To Host Virginia - I know you posted in May, but I see recent replies. What are you trying to accomplish with your hair? I use both on a regular basis. When I want to go straight, I blow try with a 3" round brush and finish with a flat iron. I like this the best because it shows off the angles and layers of my hair. When I want a bit more body, I use a 1.5" barrel curling iron and curl just the ends. If I want to doll myself up then I use the curling iron and curl all of my hair and also do random loose spirals.

A flat iron will do what it says...make your hair flat. You can use products to make your hair shine so it won't look so dull but a flat iron won't give you any lift. Using it a lot will cause your hair to become dry and brittle just like with any iron/dryer would do. You just have to be careful to not overdue.

I use a flat iron on my hair and my daughters hair. I haven't used a curling iron in a LONG time. I use a ceramic iron because it seems to heat more evenly and smooth my hair much better than even just a ceramic coated iron.

It really depends on your hair type I think. It really makes my hair have a lot more body to it, but my friend has very fine, straight hair and it doesn't help hers at all.

My daughter uses a curling iron once in a while. She has naturally curly hair, but the curls tend to go in different directions.

I don't know about lift, but the flat iron my daughter uses makes her hair straight, shiny and glossy.  She uses it in combination with Fructis sleek and shine, an anti-frizz leave-in serum.  Her hair always looks great!  :)

I don't want the curl, just the lift, wonder if the flat iron would work for this.

I have used a flat iron but it just leaves my hair feeling so very flat and dull. I don't like them.
