I have to be so careful with lotions. I can't use anything petroleum based. It makes me break out in little bumps, when thay break open, my skin cracks. It's awful!
Our seasons change from terribly hot and humid, to just warm and humid. I always use a very light, non-greasy moisturizer after a shower. I swim laps at the gym and the chlorine can dry out your skin and hair so I have to be careful to wash all of that out or my hair, especially, starts to suffer.
LOL. I am so gulity. I don't wear moisturizer on my body during the winter. I seem to can't find the correct kind for my skin or gets too oily. So I apply baby oil every time I take a shower before and after.
O WOW! My house gets the opposite. I have to use a dehumifier to get the moisturizer out of the room because it causes mold, in the summer. In the winter everything is fine.
Most houses, once heat is turned on tend to have much drier air than in the warmer months. We use a wood stove for a lot of our heat and it really dries the air out. We have to leave a steamer pot on top to keep the humidity at a decent level.
I had a lot of problems with the skin around my thumbs cracking (also my nails) and I've started wearing disposable gloves when I clean and sometimes when I'm doing cooking prep. It's helped a lot. Much more than I thought it would.
I don't know if this is a seasonal thing, but my skin has become very sensitive to makeup, cleansers and lotions I've used in the past. Now I try and buy products that are labeled for sensitive skin.
The skin around my nails (especially my thumbs) gets dry and cracked in the winter time, but Neosporin seems to be the best thing I've tried to combat this.
My scalp gets dry and itchy as it gets cooler and in the winter the most. A few dry patches on my face and my hands but nothing too bad. I use extra lotion and try and condition my hair pretty good.
On a suggestion I read here, I've been adding coconut oil to all of our lotions and it's made a huge difference in my husband and I. We're not near as dry as we were!
My husband gets really dry skin in the fall and the summer. We have to lather him up in the lotion to keep him from being so dry. My feet and hands get a little dry but not too bad.
My legs are the driest thing on me. I'm pretty sure I could write my name in my legs with my finger nails. I've been trying really hard to remember to lotion up several times per day.
My husband is a big hand-washer and so he always has dry hands, especially in the fall and winter when it gets dryer. He swears by the "Corn Huskers" lotion, and also likes that "bag balm" stuff.
I use a moisterizing hand lotion, avoiding scented ones because they are irritating to my skin and increase my intake of water. I feel it helps hydrate my skin and of course it's good for you to drink lots of water. Avoid caffeine too if you can!
