Here is an excellent article on how to color resistant gray hairs. It's by a master colorist and he says gray hair because it lacks pigment is courser, therefore more resistant and needs to be softened before color application. He also says that while the texture of everyone's hair differs, anyone with over 50% gray will most likely need to soften before coloring. more >
